Mixed Media Paintings
I have been painting on and off for about 30 years. The paintings currently on this site are from my most recent series. I have always sold all my work privately, but in 2019 I began to make it available to the general public. These paintings are the result of a lifetime of looking at contemporary art. My influences include Robert Rauschenberg, Cy Twombly, Julian Schnabel, Terry Winters and Donald Baechler. But a more direct inspiration for these was the show of Albert Oehlen's paintings at the Gagosian in 2012. I agree with one review I read that they aroused a sense of delight and play that harkens back to Rauschenberg's combine paintings of the late 50's. My intention with these paintings is merely to excite the eye with unexpected combinations of form, color and texture.
HOW I MAKE PAINTINGS
The paintings you see here were created with various combinations of oil and acrylic paints, tar, modeling paste, collage, wax, charcoal, pastel and other media. I use brushes, foam spades and often my fingers.
